Freshlypressedbeauty Q&A

A few days ago on Instagram I asked you lovelies if you would like to ask me questions for my blog, the questions could be about anything from personal to beauty related questions. I got a quite few questions which I'm overwhelmed by because I didn't know if anyone would like to ask me a question (aha). So here it goes! I will include everyone's Instagram names so you can check them out if you wish. :)

@hey_its_lisey_xx asked: What is your favourite shop?

I don't do much clothes shopping anymore but my favourite has to be Primark. Everything is cheap and they have some gorgeous clothes!

@rachelholleyxo asked: If you could only ever shop in one shop for clothes and one for make-up ever again where would they be?

Again I think it would have to be Primark, they have everything that I want and it's at a good price. For make-up it would have to be Boots, they have designer brands as well as drugstore and I couldn't go without drugstore make-up!

@lunaslens asked: High-end or drugstore and why?

Mmm, definitely drugstore! I can buy everything I need there at a good price and they always have amazing dupes for high-end products.

@rachelholleyxo If all your make-up disappeared and you could only spend £50 on new make-up what bits would you buy?

I would buy L'oreal Infallible 24hr foundation (£9.99), Rimmel Glam Eyes eyeliner (£5.29) Sleek Face Pallete (£9.99) MUA Heaven & Earth pallet (£4), Rimmel Scandeleyes Mascara (£6.99) Rimmel Stay Matte Powder (£3.99) and Rimmel Kate Moss Matte Lipstick in 110 (£4.99). That was hard!

@asdfghjklemma13 asked: If all your make-up got taken away what five things would you repurchase? @faith280801 asked a similar question that can also be answered with this answer below.

I would definitely repurchase a foundation (MAC's Studio Fix), concealer (MAC's Studio Finish), mascara( Rimmel Scandeleyes, Extreme black), eyeliner (Rimmel Glam Eyes Liquid eyeliner) and lipstick (L'oreal Privee, Julliane's nude) so I could have a full face of make-up.

@thesparklylaura What was your first make-up purchase or the first make-up brand you started using?

I can't quite remember the first make-up brand I purchased but I'm pretty sure the first make-up brand I tried was AVON. My mum used to be an Avon lady and I'd always ask her to get me things from the brochure.

@taras_smile Your holy grail product? If you could only use one thing?

If I could only use one thing it would be so so horrible! But if I had to choose I would go for a foundation, MAC's Studio Fix Fluid. This foundation is my go-to foundation at the moment and I adore it.

@franziskahagn asked: Is there one beauty product you can't live without? @faith280801 asked another similar question which can be answered in the answer below and so did @beccabeioley.

Similar to the last question it would have to be foundation, my skin is awful and I feel more confident when I hide it. My skin has scarring from my teenage years and it's very prone to spots. :(

@stars_in_my_dreams asked: What's your favourite account on Instagram with the same theme as yours?

I love @daniellekimberleyxo @ashleighbeauty @porcelainbeautyx @absbembo. These are all accounts that largely post make-up, all of their accounts are gorgeous!

@musicalhouses and @fayeparkerxo asked: How do you take your photos? What set up do you use?

I either take them on my iPhone 4s or my boyfriends iPhone 5. I take a white jumper and rest it on a box on my desk, it sounds so silly! At the moment I'm in a shared student house with my friends so I can't take great pictures as the furniture is not what I want it to be. But next year I'll be living with my boyfriend so I can by the furniture I want.

@perksofbeingjo_x asked: Do a fact file?

Height: 5/6 or 5/7, I'm not entirely sure
Weight: I'm not comfortable saying but I'm a size 12/14
Age: 20
Hair colour: blonde (never dyed)
Eye colour: blue
Star sign: Sagittarius

@sadhbh__ asked: Feb faves?

Keep your eyes peeled for a post on Sat of my Feb favourites. :)

@faith280801 asked: What effects do you use on your photo's?

I don't use any. I mainly turn the brightness, contrast and saturation up to get the desired effect.

@wanderlust_abi asked: What's your favourite drugstore brand?

I have a few but if I had to choose one it would probably be L'oreal. I love their lipsticks and their BB powder.

@alyssamariebeauty How do you get your pictures to look the way they do?

I put them into an order of what looks the nicest then I make sure the sun is shining and take a picture. I don't do anything special to them mind!

@fairy_lightsxo What is your favourite high-end brand and why?

It would have to be MAC, I adore their products. For the price you pay you get amazing quality, that's why I love MAC.

@samyrowlinsonxo asked: What is your favourite Naked pallet?

I unfortunately do not own a Naked pallet, yet! But out of the three, judging by photos I'm gonna go with Naked 3. It has so many gorgeous warm pinks and I think they would suit my skin tone more.

@rotem_4 asked: Which product for lips is your favourite?

I'm not completely sure what you mean lovely. But I prefer lipstick to lipgloss and my go-to lipstick at the moment is MAC's Speak Louder.

Thank you all so much for asking me questions. I hope you found a little bit more about me and what I enjoy. Please comment below if you enjoyed my answers and leave a little bit about you too. :)

The Sunday Edit #4

Week run-down on my blog:

Monday: Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick Reviews and Swatches

Wednesday: Beauty Haul

Saturday: MAC Collection

I really enjoy writing these and I hope that you lovelies enjoy reading them, even though I'm not the most interesting person in the world, hehe!

At the start of the week I finally got in contact with the owner of Sunderland dance studios for a comment on a grant they had been awarded. It took me over a week to get this story finished and it's finally published on SR News. SR News is run by Sunderland University and it's a hyperlocal news wesbite. It's great for us journalism students to get our work published. You can read my article here.

I also wrote two articles for My Student Style this week and if you've been following my blog for a while you would know that I regularly contribute to MSS. This website is great to get yourself published and it looks wonderful on your CV. The second article that I wrote this week for MSS was "Lingerie for your personality" it isn't up just yet but I'll be sure to add it into next weeks Sunday Edit.

On Friday I handed in my first assessment for semester two at University. It was a double page spread for magazine design and production. Basically, we had to choose a double page spread and mimic everything on the page, the fonts, the layouts but not the copy. We had to find some copy of the internet and change the content but keep the same design. Finding the exact fonts was so so hard!

This is the original double page spread

Here is my double page spread
(You can click on the images to make them bigger)

I'm pretty proud of my work here, it doesn't look really complicated but it was quite difficult. I'm really excited to do more magazine design in the future.
What did you get up to this week?

MAC Collection

MAC collection

I don't have a lot of MAC products but what I have I love so much! So today I'm sharing with you my small... but growing MAC collection.

I have six products in total, two lipsticks, two blushers, a concealer and foundation. Everything I have is of great quality and long lasting.

The lipsticks that I have are Speed Dial and Speak Louder, they're both gorgeous cremesheen bright pinks. Speed Dial is a light pink and Speak Louder is a deep pink.

Speak Louder (left) Speed Dial (right)
Dainty and Dollymix are the two blushers that I own. They're both pinks but Dainty is a mineralize blush so it has a gorgeous mix of pinks. It's probably my favourite MAC product!

Lastly are my two base products: Studio Finish Concealer and Studio Fix Foundation. Studio Finish Concealer is the best concealer I've tried, it's creamy and it covers up my hideous dark circles with ease. Studio Fix Fluid is my favourite foundation, it gives a flawless matte coverage, which I love!

Do you love or loathe MAC? What are your favourite products?

Rimmel Kate Moss Lipsticks Review and Swatches

A few weeks ago I bought two of the Rimmel Kate Moss Matte lipsticks (I say bought, I got them with my Boots points, aha). These lipsticks are on offer for £3.99 at the moment in Boots so it's a great bargain to be had!

A year ago I did purchase one of these lipsticks and I loved it so I bought it again, but it took me a long time to actually purchase it but I'm so glad I did.

First off lets start with the packaging. It's beautiful, I love the colour of the container and I love how "Kate" is signed on too.

The two shades I picked up were 110 (had this one before) and 107. 110 is a beautiful pink/coral colour and it's perfect for spring/summer or if you want to add to your make-up with a bold lip. 107 is a gorgeous dark plum shade and it's perfect purple as it isn't too bright.

110 top & 107 bottom

I love a Matte finish and it's hard to find good ones at the drugstore as there isn't that many. The only downfall to this product is that it does dry your lips out and the wear isn't long at around 1-2 ish hours. But if you're okay with reapplying throughout the day then I definitely recommend this.

What's your favourite finish? Matte or gloss?

The Sunday Edit #3

Week rundown on my blog:

Tuesday: Beauty Life Tag
Wednesday: MAC HAUL
Saturday: Feb wishlist

I hope you all had a lovely week and a lovely Valentines. My week consisted of pretty much the same thing it does every week, blogging, Uni , buying make-up and working out. I'm on the second week of my workout DVD and I've already lost half a stone! I went on my first jog yesterday too, oh it nearly killed me...

On Wednesday I went to MAC and bought some new products and today I finally purchased the L'oreal Perfect Match foundation, I hope it's worth all the hype!  Friday was Valentines day and I spent the majority of it at Uni, but I came home to a bouquet of flowers for Valentines from my lovely boyfriend. We then spent Valentines at home watching television and eating takeaway. Pretty perfect to me!

What did you all get up to this week?

Mini MAC Haul

On Monday I went to Newcastle with my boyfriend Michael to go to a MAC counter as we don't have one here in Sunderland. I originally wanted to go just for MAC make-up but Michael insisted that it would be a waste of the 30 minute Metro journey (it would never be a waste, boys ey?) so we went to Pizza Hut and did some shopping. It turned into a cute little date with some rather expensive shopping...

When I first walked into MAC I had an idea of what I wanted to buy, this being the Pro Longwear Concealer, Prep 'n' Prime Highlighter and a lipstick. But when looking at these products I had no idea what shade to go for or what would work best so I asked one of the lovely MAC make-up artists.

I told her that I have pretty dark circles under my eyes that needed covering and I thought that I needed a lighter colour than my foundation to correct them. After telling the lovely artist my problem she explained how she uses a concealer darker than her foundation. At first I wasn't quite convinced but her face was so flawless so I took her advice in opting for one darker than my foundation. They had no NW20 Pro Longwear concealer in stock so I picked up the Studio Finish concealer instead, she told me that this was heavy coverage and it would even cover up tattoos! The make-up artist gave me a tester of the product to take home but I also bought it, she said I could try the tester and if I didn't like it I would get a refund, what a lovely idea. After using the concealer for two days now it's the best one I've used and I can see why she suggested a shade darker. Expect a review of this wonderful product soon.

I next went on to look at the blushers and lipsticks and ended up picking up Dainty, a beautiful mineralise blush. Then I went to the lipsticks and they didn't have in stock the first two that I wanted but there's so many to choose from I got a lovely cremesheme pink lipstick in the shade Speak Louder.

For all the trouble of nothing being in stock the make-up artist gave me a tester of a primer for oily skin as I'd explained that was my skin-type.

All of the MAC staff are so lovely and helpful so don't be afraid to ask! I now know more about make-up than I did before and I've got some amazing products! A successful but expensive shopping trip!

What's your favourite MAC product?

Beauty Life Tag

The lovely Ashleigh has created a beauty tag so I thought I would join in. :)

How long does it take to apply your make-up?

On a day-to-day morning basis it takes roughly around 30-45 minutes. If I had ages to be somewhere I'd take more time so I could perfect everything.

What made you get into beauty?

I started wearing make-up at around 15, even though I was probably wearing it wrong, aha... But ever since then I've been using make-up and can't go out without it. Since I've started blogging and using YouTube I've got more into beauty and make-up.

What is the most amount of money you have spent on a beauty product?

I don't buy that many high-end products but my Porefessional would be the most expensive beauty product at £24.50.

One product you can't live without?

Definitely foundation, I hate my skin and foundation gives me more confidence.

Favourite overall brand?

This is tough because I have a few! Lately it has definitely been MAC as their products are amazing and I've been using them near enough every day.

Would you rather wear the wrong foundation shade or have lipstick on your teeth?

Lipstick on my teeth. I'd hate to wear the wrong foundation shade because being orange is a big no no!

Do you take your make-up off properly or use a make-up wipe?

I take mine off properly with micellar solution, it feels so much better than with a wipe.

When applying a full face of make-up, what item could you do with out wearing?

For me it's bronzer as I'm not that into contouring mainly because I don't know how to do it.

Some beauty products on your wishlist.

Ooo, Naked 3 is definitely up there! As well as Bobbi Brown foundation, Sleek face pallet and MAC's Soft and Gentle highlighter.

Do you have make-up free days?

Very rarely. I share a house with my friends and I hate being bare faced, even on Sundays!

I tag: AbbieBecky, Zoe, Holly, Kady, Lucy. :)

The Sunday Edit #2

Week run-down on my blog:

Monday: Overpriced make-up - mascara

Friday: Porefessional vs Baby Skin

Saturday: Beauty bargains #1

This week consisted of University, blogging, exercising and only a bit of shopping... I'm trying not to spend so much money as I really cannot afford it. But I did pick up some of Primark's make-up as I've been wanting to try it. I picked up a eye shadow pallet, lip gloss and a concealer brush so look out for reviews of them in the next few weeks. I also picked up a lovely jumper and a skirt which I can't wait to wear!

I also got another article published on My Student Style, which you can read here. If you're interested in writing articles go and check them out for a chance to be published, it's great experience. :)

I'd love to hear what you lovelies got up to this week? I'm really boring so I apologise, Uni just takes most of my time up, aha!

I'm planning on going into MAC tomorrow to buy a concealer, which one would you recommend?

Hope you've all had a lovely Sunday.

Beauty Bargains #1 - ELF eye shadow pallet

So I thought I would add a beauty bargains feature to my blog as I love hearing about other people's bargains and I'd like to share mine.

I got this eye shadow pallet from ELF a few weeks ago for the bargain price of £3! £3 for 32 eye shadows is amazing so I snapped up this deal while I could.

The eye shadows are a mixture of mattes and shimmer and there's a colour for every occasion, they blend well, they stay on and they're very pigmented. For £3 you can't go wrong!

I love ELF products already but this pallet makes me love them more. If they're still selling them I'd recommend buying one.

Should I post more beauty bargains on my blog?

Benefit's Porefessional VS Maybelline's Baby Skin

Sorry there wasn't a post on Wednesday I've been busy learning shorthand at Uni (it's so hard o m g) so here's a post now to make up for it.

I bought Benefit's Porefessional the other week and instead of reviewing it by itself I'll compare it to Maybelline's Baby Skin (you can read that review here).

Packaging of both products

So lets start off with the visuals of the products. They both have lovely packaging, I love the shiny packaging of the Maybelline's Baby Skin because it goes perfect with the name and the colour scheme is lovely. But I also love the packaging of Porefessional, it's matte but it comes in such a pretty box with a flyer of how to use Porefessional, which for the price I kind of expected all of this luxury.

Now if you're new to make-up and you're unsure of what I'm rambling on about... I'm writing about two of the most talked about primers in the beauty world! Maybelline Baby Skin is drug-store and it retails for around £7.99 and Benefit Porefessional is high-end and costs £24.50.

Baby Skin                                                  Porefessional

When comparing the formula's of both products they are different. Baby Skin is a clear silicone gel and Porefessional is more of a translucent balm. They both do the job of concealing pores but as expected Porefessional performs better, and as a high-end product I expected it to. Although it does work better Baby Skin makes your skin so so so soft which definitely gives it a standing chance when both. With Baby Skin I like to wait a few minutes before I put my foundation on as it can slide off but with Porefessional you can apply it near enough straight away.

Baby Skin                                              Porefessional

Benefit's Porefessional is my favourite out of these two products as it does work better for me, but if you cannot afford it (because it is quite expensive) definitely try Baby Skin because it is good and at £7.99 it's a lot cheaper.

What's your favourite primer?

Overpriced Make-Up: Mascara

When I'm looking for a mascara I always head over to Rimmel because I know I'm going to get a good quality one that suits what I'm looking for. But I've always thought that mascara's are too overpriced compared to other beauty products.

When comparing the price of foundation and mascara there is literally pence in the difference, it boggles me how brands can charge so much for mascara when they only go on a fraction of your face. You can get a foundation from Rimmel for £6.99 and you can get a mascara also from Rimmel for £6.99. Foundation goes all over your face whereas you can buy a mascara that only goes on your eyes for the same price which makes no sense, really.

From Boots the cheapest drugstore mascara is £1.99 and the most expensive drugstore mascara is £12.95. I would never pay over £10 for a mascara because I think they're way too overpriced for what it actually is. Supposedly the more you pay the better quality it is but with some drugstore mascara's this isn't true.

I'll always be loyal to my Rimmel mascara's as they're great and sometimes can be found on offer with £5, a reasonable price for a drugstore mascara.

I'd love to know what you guys think! Do you agree with me? Or do you think mascara's are reasonably priced?

The Sunday Edit #1

I thought I would add something different to my blog so I'm bringing you the weekly Sunday edit. I love reading these posts as they give the blogs week run-down in posts as well as a snippet into the bloggers life. I'm not the most interesting person you'll meet but by doing these posts you will get to know a bit more about me.

I was lacking on the posts this week but I'll try my best to post every Monday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.

Wednesday - Colour Riche Privee Lipstick/My Student Style first published article
Saturday - January Favourites

So at the beginning of the week I started semester two of my second year at University. There's only 12/13 weeks left and it's flying by way too fast for my liking. My week wasn't that busy as we were starting new modules so it's basically an introduction to these modules and simple tasks in workshops.

I somehow managed to pull the muscle in my neck/shoulder so I wasn't able to do many things, which resulted in missing a day at Uni to go to A&E as I didn't know (at the time) what was wrong. The pain has nearly gone completely so when it does I'll be back to normal, going to Uni everyday and blogging frequently.

The only beauty product I bought this week was Benefit's Porefessional, which also came with an eye cream and a brightening primer.

I've been on a spending ban as I can't afford to keep buying make-up, much to my disappointment as make-up is my favourite thing as I'm sure you've guessed by now! I need a proper part-time job to fund my beauty buys but I haven't got any free time. I work at Sunderland AFC football ground nearly every time they have a home game but the money only covers the food I buy.

So that's my first Sunday Edit, I hope you enjoyed it. :)

What did you do this week?
